Physical Education at Sowing Seeds.
Physical Education is a vital element in the ethos and culture of Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning which enables students to maintain positive physical, mental and emotional health. SSAL delivers two PE lessons a week providing opportunities to connect with the natural environment, respect the planet, be healthy and active, build confidence and self-esteem through taking managed risk, and learn practical, social and leadership skills.
Physical Education is both part of the core curriculum. For some students, Physical Education, delivered both indoors and outdoors can also be a vehicle for delivering English and Maths. Formal assessment in Outdoor Education is offered as a pathway option and takes place through the ASDAN Life SKills or Short Courses.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (Including Personal and Social Development (PSD) and Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) SSAL specialises in working with children who have SEMH difficulties. All our students struggle with social and emotional regulation which have been barriers to their full inclusion in mainstream education and society. For this reason, PSHE, PSD AND PfA is a crucial element in the core curriculum and integrated where possible.
Through teaching and learning of each core subject, and 30 minutes at the start of each day, students can gain insights into the possibilities available to them in the wider world and can develop the knowledge and skills they need to access them and achieve their full potential. PSHE and PFA is also the main subject through which formal learning on the following takes place:
- Relationships and Sex Education
- Fundamental British values
- Careers Information and guidance
- Preparation for Adulthood
PSHE is delivered across years 5-11 and is a pathway option to be formally assessed via ASDAN’s life skills challenges and short courses.
