About Sowing Seeds

Our Focus & Ethos.

Every child’s curriculum at Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning is bespoke and has been designed to consider their different starting points, gaps in learning as well as social, emotional and learning needs and barriers, no matter whether they join us in Year 5 or Year 11.Our broad and balanced curriculum provides meaningful and relevant skills and knowledge to the lived experience of our students and to equip them to achieve their aspirations at school and as they prepare for adulthood.

Sowing Seeds takes a holistic approach to teaching and learning. We aim to address a child or young person’s basic moral, spiritual and domestic needs, whilst recognising that many of our students have struggled in the past due long periods of absence from school and/or learning. There is a focus on encouraging students to make healthy decisions for themselves through student-centred and teacher-guided activities to promote self-advocacy.

We firmly believe in a reflective practice model, and this is incorporated into our curriculum to improve practical skills and knowledge, and to recognise and evidence a student’s development of emotional intelligence and confidence.

Our ethos is deeply rooted in empowering every young person to learn, grow, and be guided to find their unique path to success. We understand that for many of our students, traditional education has presented significant barriers, but we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reconnect with their innate curiosity. Here, they are given the safe space and tailored support to learn at their own pace, to rebuild foundational knowledge, and to discover new passions. We nurture them to grow not only academically, but also emotionally, socially, and personally by fostering determination, self-awareness, and vital life skills. Ultimately, we guide each student towards their own definition of success, which includes achieving accreditations, ASDAN and GCSE qualifications, building meaningful relationships, gaining vocational skills, or confidently stepping into their post-16 future.
