Aesthetic & Creative at Sowing Seeds.
The Aesthetics and Creative curriculum at Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning is designed to provide a safe, engaging, and inclusive space where learners from Year 5 to Year 11 can explore and develop their creative potential. It aims to inspire, challenge, and nurture pupils by offering structured lessons alongside extra-curricular opportunities, while providing clear progression pathways through ASDAN Expressive Arts and NCFE Creative Craft qualifications.
The curriculum is built around the following aims:
- Promote creativity, resilience, and confidence through accessible and practical experiences.
- Develop transferable skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Provide continuity and progression across Key Stages 2–4, with age-appropriate outcomes.
- Support pupils with EBSA, SEND, and SEMH needs through nurturing, flexible, and therapeutic approaches.
- Offer accredited pathways that open opportunities for further learning, training, and employment.
- Embed SMSC development and the promotion of British Values through cultural exploration and collaborative practice.
In doing so, the curriculum ensures that pupils can engage with a broad range of creative disciplines, including art, craft, design, performance, and digital media, while developing the confidence and skills needed for both personal growth and future success.
The delivery of Aesthetics and Creative is carefully structured across different Key Stages to provide continuity and progression:
Key Stage 2 (Years 5–6): Pupils are encouraged to explore and enjoy practical creative activities. They are introduced to sketchbooks and journals, develop fine motor and craft skills, and reflect on their work.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): Learners expand their creative identity through experimentation with diverse media such as textiles, photography, and digital design. They begin to evaluate their outcomes more formally and may start gaining credits through the ASDAN Expressive Arts Short Course.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): Pupils focus on sustained projects that reflect personal interest and vocational outcomes dependent on their starting point. They have the option to work towards NCFE Creative Craft qualifications at Level 1 or 2, building a portfolio that demonstrates technical skills, creativity, and reflective practice.
