About Sowing Seeds

Inclusion & Wellbeing.

At Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning, inclusion is not just a principle—it is our practice.
We are committed to creating a school where every learner feels safe, respected, valued and empowered to succeed, regardless of background, ability, need or identity.
Our ethos is grounded in compassion, fairness, and opportunity for all, in line with the Independent School Standards, the Equality Act 2010 and statutory safeguarding duties under Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE 2025).

Teaching and Learning about Protected Characteristics

Sowing Seeds actively teaches about the nine Protected Characteristics of the Equality Act 2010;
age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

Our teaching ensures that pupils understand these characteristics as part of what makes every person unique, and why respecting difference is essential to a healthy, fair society.
This learning is embedded through PSHE, RSE, and ASDAN Personal Development pathways, meeting Independent School Standards (Part 1, paragraph 2) requiring personal, social, and moral development.

We deliver this through:

  • Themed PSHE and RSE sessions exploring identity, equality, and human rights, adapted to pupils’ developmental stages.
  • ASDAN modules such as Diversity, Community, Relationships, and Health and Wellbeing, which promote empathy, reflection, and citizenship.
  • Visual supports, social stories, and multi-sensory learning for pupils with SEND or SEMH needs.
  • Restorative discussions encouraging pupils to recognise discrimination, challenge stereotypes, and promote fairness.
  • Representation of diverse families, faiths, and identities in resources and displays.
  • Trauma-informed delivery to ensure emotional safety and dignity for all pupils.
Our Commitment

Meeting the Needs of Every Learner

At the heart of Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning is a belief that every child can thrive when provided with the right environment, relationships, and opportunities. Through our personalised approach, we cultivate a sense of belonging, purpose, and hope — empowering each learner to take confident steps toward their next stage of education, training, or employment.
